Actor Michael Imperioli, known for his role in “The Sopranos,” has joined a chorus of Hollywood actors expressing their disapproval of a recent Supreme Court ruling. The ruling favored a Christian web designer who sought legal protection to refuse services to same-sex couples based on religious beliefs.
Imperioli took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a news article with the headline “Supreme Court protects web designer who won’t do gay wedding websites.” He accompanied it with a caption denouncing the decision. The actor declared his intention to exclude bigots and homophobes from watching any of his works, including “The Sopranos,” “The White Lotus,” and “Goodfellas.” He sarcastically thanked the Supreme Court for enabling him to discriminate against those with opposing views.
In response to some reactions to his post, Imperioli reaffirmed his stance by stating that hate and ignorance should not be considered legitimate viewpoints. He expressed his concern about the perceived decline in intelligence in America.
The Supreme Court’s 6-3 majority decision, announced on Friday, significantly undermines LGBTQ protections. The case involved a web designer named Lorie Smith, who refused to create wedding websites for same-sex couples due to her religious beliefs. Smith argued that a Colorado law prohibiting her from posting a statement explaining her opposition to same-sex marriages violated her right to free speech. The Supreme Court ruled in her favor.
This ruling is just one of several conservative victories issued by the Court in recent days. They also canceled President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program and deemed affirmative action in college admissions unconstitutional.
