Who cares who the winner is? Seth Rogen has a more pressing question for the Hollywood elite.
Why is the Academy Awards so important to the entertainment industry?
In a recent interview with Insider, the 39-year-old star of “Pam & Tommy” discussed his thoughts on the prized prizes. “I don’t get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves,” Rogen said. “Perhaps people just don’t care,” the star of “Knocked Up” added. “It doesn’t matter to me who wins the car awards. No other industry requires everyone to be concerned about the prizes they receive. Perhaps they are unconcerned. Maybe they did for a while before losing interest. “Why should they?” you could ask.
The telecast’s popularity has dwindled in recent years. For the last three shows, the ceremony has also decided not to have a host. The Oscars in 2022, on the other hand, will have a host. The outlet asked Rogen who should take the stage, but no one has been named. “That’s a tough one,” the Vancouver native admitted, but added, “I’m sure there are comedians out there who want to, right?”
Only 9.85 million people watched the show in 2021, compared to 23.6 million who watched the Oscars in 2020. In 2019, the show was watched by 29.6 million people. This year’s show is planned to occur on March 27, live from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.
Despite never being nominated for an Academy Award, Rogen has made multiple appearances on the red carpet in the past. In 2017, he and Michael J. Fox presented the award for Best Editing, during which Rogen sang a piece from “Hamilton.”
In 2009, the “Freaks and Geeks” actor performed a sketch with his “Pineapple Express” co-star James Franco at the 81st Academy Awards. Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross unveiled the Oscar nominees for 2022 on Tuesday morning. With 12 and 10, respectively, “The Power of the Dog” and “Dune” received the most nominations.
For the Best Actor award, Javier Bardem, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Garfield, Will Smith, and Denzel Washington will compete.
