Fans are still waiting for Ghost Rider to make his big-screen debut within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While there have been past interpretations of the character, both in film and on television, they haven’t taken place directly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. Thus, fans have been trying to urge Marvel to finally put a new film into production, and one of the biggest choices they have for the titular Ghost Rider role is none other than Norman Reedus.
The nature of a live-action Ghost Rider has been interesting over the years after Gabriel Luna portrayed the Robbie Reyes version of the character on Agents of SHIELD. A spinoff Ghost Rider TV show was briefly in the works for Hulu but was ultimately scrapped due to changing plans within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It remains to be seen if Reedus is in fact the one who has been tapped to play Ghost Rider in the MCU, but at least one person is in his corner when it comes to landing the role. In a tweet, TWD showrunner Kang endorsed the idea of Reedus joining the Marvel universe, saying “Just saying… Norman Reedus as Ghost Rider would be amazing.
Nicolas Cage famously played a previous iteration of Johnny Blaze in a pair of Ghost Rider films. The rights have since gone back to Marvel Studios, but the character has yet to be given his own movie again. The Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider was later featured in the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and there were plans for him to star in his own Ghost Rider spinoff series at Hulu. The streamer decided not to move forward with the show.
As for Norman Reedus, his time playing Daryl Dixon isn’t over just yet, even with The Walking Dead concluding with its eleventh and final season in 2022. There are already plans in place at AMC for Reedus to continue on with the role alongside Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier. Whether that show can go on for another ten seasons remains to be seen.
He is also attached to revisit another one of his most popular roles. Reedus will return with Sean Patrick Flanery in another sequel to The Boondock Saints. Troy Duffy will also return to direct the feature with production slated to start in May 2022. Reedus will undoubtedly be busy for the foreseeable future, but there’s no doubt he’d work Ghost Rider into his schedule one way or another if Marvel Studios gives him the call.
