George Nolfi’s unnamed original concept, a ripped-from-the-headlines fact-based thriller about the Afghanistan evacuation, has been acquired by Universal Pictures. The film will star Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy.
The story is based on genuine events, with three former military team members jumping back into the fray alongside their Afghan counterparts to rescue families and allies who were left behind during Afghanistan’s swift fall last August.
Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan of Free Association will produce alongside Jules Daly, Tatum, and Hardy. The executive producer will be Nolfi.
Tatum next appears in Dog, which he co-directed with Reid Carolin, and in The Lost City, alongside Sandra Bullock. Hardy is fresh off the success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and the completion of Havoc, a Netflix thriller directed by Gareth Evans. The Banker, which Nolfi wrote and directed for Apple TV+, was his most recent project.
On behalf of Universal, Senior Vice President of Production Ryan Jones will manage the project.
CAA and David Fox at Myman Greenspan manage Nolfi; CAA, Hanson, Jacobson, Teller, and Relevant represent Tatum; and United Agents and Range Media Partners represent Hardy.
