Gal Gadot may be best known to most movie audiences as Wonder Woman, but in one of her next roles, she’s going to have the opportunity to embrace her darker nature. That’s because the Justice League alum is reportedly going to take on the role of the evil queen in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White.
She said, “First of of all I am excited about the fact that this is [an] iconic character and I’m excited to make, to create an iconic villain character in my own voice,” she told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for the premiere of “Red Notice,” her new film in which she plays an art thief.
“I’m very, very excited and looking forward to playing the evil queen,” Gadot said.
“Mirror, mirror on the wall — can’t wait!” she added in a sample of one of the Evil Queen’s more famous lines.
Production is expected to start in 2022. The film is the latest in a string of remakes of classic Disney films, including Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin, and Dumbo. Disney also has a live-action The Little Mermaid in the works starring Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, and Awkwafina.
There are many other live-action Disney remakes on the way, as the House of Mouse has found great financial success with this strategy of reimagining their popular animated titles. Filming recently wrapped on The Little Mermaid which will present a new take on Ariel’s store with Halle Bailey in the lead role opposite Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch. Also in the works are new movies based on Pinocchio and Lilo and Stitch, as well as sequels to The Lion King and Aladdin.
Disney hasn’t yet set a release date for the Snow White remake. The project will reportedly start production in the month of March.
