Considering that it has been directed by Oscar-winning Chloé Zhao. A week ahead of release, Marvel’s Eternals is looking like a rare misstep from the MCU. It seems that the level of understanding of audience psychology has not been understood.
After 92 reviews, the Chloe Zhao directorial Eternals has a score of 64 percent, which is lower than Thor: Dark World, the movie which previously held the record for the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score for an MCU film.
It does indeed come as a surprise that such a creation given the director and the cast, has definitely not been very successful, and this indeed has created disappointments everywhere.
Of course, the score can change significantly in either direction once the film is out in theatres and more critics get to see it. But one thing is certain, the film has divided critics like no other MCU film.
The critical consensus reads, “An ambitious superhero epic that soars more often than it strains, Eternals takes the MCU in intriguing — and occasionally confounding — new directions.”
The film has been praised for its visuals and scale, but being criticized for being overstuffed and full of expository dialogue, among other things.
The film stars Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Gil Birmingham, Harish Patel, and Kit Harington. but this is shaping up to be a rare miss, in relative terms, before we get Spider-Man to likely turn things around this winter.
The film recently had its London premiere, where the director, as well as the entire cast, was present. However, that being indeed this comes as a surprise.
