Johnny Depp Believes No One Can Take Jack Sparrow From Him

Over the last few months, Johnny Depp has been widely featured in the media as his court struggle with ex-wife Amber Heard has only intensified. Given Johnny Depp’s celebrity, charges that he assaulted his ex-wife rapidly became a story that everyone wanted to learn more about. Depp maintains that Heard’s allegations are baseless and that he has never been found guilty in a court of law. The outcome of the $150 million lawsuits will not be known until next spring.

Having said that, Depp’s career has taken a hit as a result of the court battle and the ramifications of Heard’s allegations. Depp sued The Sun after the publication published a piece defaming him and accusing him of being aggressive. The actor’s battle with the tabloid as well as his appeal were both lost. Depp would go on to lose two significant gigs soon after. Warner Bros. ousted the actor and replaced him with Mads Mikkelson in the Fantastic Beasts film, and then Disney fired him from his famous character as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Johnny Depp went on to take a dig at Disney and said he doesn’t need a company to be Jack and nobody can take it away from him. “I don’t need a company to do that. I can just do that myself and nobody can take that away. That’s the greatest pleasure of Jack Sparrow. I can travel with Captain Jack in a box – literally Captain Jack in a box – and when the opportunity is right and I’m able to go and visit people and places where the smiles and the laughs and the things that are important, the most important things in the world are on the line,” Depp concluded.

Since 2003, Depp has embodied Jack Sparrow, and viewers have fallen in love with the wayward pirate. Depp was able to imbue Sparrow with distinct mannerisms and speech patterns, making him a one-of-a-kind persona. Guests will see Depp’s portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow out for a meet and greets as well as in the Pirates of the Caribbean experience at a majority of the Disney Parks, including Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Needless to say, many people were disappointed by Disney’s choice to remove Depp and Jack Sparrow from the franchise.

Depp recently showed his ability to instantly return to the character when speaking with a young admirer at the San Sebastian Film Festival. He mentioned not performing Jack Sparrow again while he was there. He did talk about how he was the one who brought the role to life, almost as if he owned the part. Depp can bring Sparrow to life anytime he wants, as he demonstrated with the young fan.
