The trailer of the sequel to 2018’s film, Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage is here and it’s destructive. Tom Hardy’s tentacular anti-hero avatar meets his biggest rival, Carnage or its alter-ego played by Woody Harrelson. The film is directed by Andy Serkis and sees the return of Michelle Williams as well. Reports suggest the movie will release on September 24 while the trailer mentions this fall at the theatres near you.
When Sony confirmed the Venom: Let There Be Carnage film title last year, it all but assured viewers that they would be treated to such a fight. At the same time as the title announcement, Sony also delayed the sequel due to the COVID-19 pandemic; it’s currently set to hit theaters in late September.
Set photos and videos from production on the Venom sequel showed early, unofficial looks at Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady – including a new hairstyle, changing it up from the post-credits scene. However, the official Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie trailer revealed what Carnage would look like in live-action. In addition to Carnage, the trailer also put a spotlight on Eddie and Venom’s relationship, a dynamic that was a highlight of the first film. Now, as the release of the Venom sequel gets closer, Sony has debuted another trailer for the follow-up film.
In addition to Hardy and Harrelson, the sequel features the return of Michelle Williams as Eddie’s ex-girlfriend Anne Weying and Reid Scott as Anne’s new partner Dan Lewis. Andy Serkis directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage after Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the first film, didn’t return; Venom co-writer Kelly Marcel returned to pen the script, based on a story she crafted with Hardy. Although Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently meant to release on September 24, the trailer only says it will release exclusively in theaters this fall.
in the new Venom 2 trailer. The footage shows more of Carnage’s origin and his powers, and Venom’s reaction to him being a red symbiote also teases a new aspect of alien lore. The first movie included symbiotes that were black, silver, blue and yellow so a red symbiote hasn’t been seen yet in the Venom universe, and considering the deadly powers Carnage demonstrates – avoiding bullets and having various spiky weapons – they seem to be more powerful. Even Cletus’s transformation into Carnage is different to Venom, with Harrelson’s face twisting into becoming the symbiote, rather than Venom, which encases Eddie in a protective layer.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer lays more groundwork for an epic battle between Venom and Carnage.
