John Cena called Taiwan a country during one of his promotions for his upcoming movie, Fast and Furious 9. John Cena is extremely sorry for passing a politically wrong comment. The statement outrages the Chinese people.
The F9 will be one of the biggest opening since the pandemic and the fans are super excited for the movie. The movie will see Vin diesel as Dominic Toretto, who’s leading a low life pretty much off the grid with Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his son, Brian. But Dom’s pacific life is soon toppled with the arrival of his separated brother Jakob Toretto who is played by Cena.
On 25 May 2021, John Cena took to a popular Chinese social media application called Weibo to apologize to the masses that have gotten offended.
He recorded an apology video in Mandarin (Chinese) saying, “I must say now, [it’s] very, very, very, very important [that] I love, and respect even more, China and the Chinese people.” “I’m sorry for my mistake,”.
The former WWE fame was promoting the Fast and Furious 9 on a Taiwanese broadcast channel. The sentence that got him in trouble was “Taiwan is the first country that will get to see F9”.
The reason that they got so offended is due to the fact that Taiwan has been a self-governed democratic island since the conclusion of the Chinese Civil War over 70 years ago, but it’s still considered by Beijing as a land claimed by the People’s Republic of China. Any comments on Taiwan’s independence are considered a severe offense by the people of China.
