In an exclusive interview with Deadline, the Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs confirmed that the idea to convert American Psycho into a full-fledged TV series is underway. Well, Beggs didn’t give out any significant detail except for the fact that the series is being developed and fans sure would not want to miss on something like this.
Beggs remarked that since they just wrapped up Dear white people and which according to Beggs was a beautiful experience, blind spotting is also coming up. We’re always exploring what we can do on television with something like the Saw franchise, so that’s a conversation,” said Beggs.
Lionsgate indeed has been substantially busy with the development of other shows throughout even in spite of the Covid-19 production delays the entertainment industry has been experiencing. At the end of the 2020 pilot season, they managed to crank out three different pilots for shows which have now been converted to full series (Home Economics, This Country, and Ghosts).
Beggs also confirmed The Continental will explore the John Wick universe 40 years before the primary movie, which specializes in a young Winston, the owner of the famous hotel for assassins. In an interview with Deadline, Beggs also talked about The Continental’s unusual format, which will have only three 90-minutes episodes.
Beggs explained Lionsgate TV’s approach to the series as to how of expanding the number of their most lucrative IPs, remarking how any expansion should never become an obstacle for future movie installments. within the case of The Continental, Beggs says that there have been tons of various pitches before they might choose the show’s plot. The winning pitch came from the creative team of the show Wayne, a YouTube Premium exclusive. As Beggs tells, the team’s pitch was immediately accepted because of the ideal solution for expanding the John Wick universe.
Beggs didn’t leak out any information about who will be starring in the show, what will the show be about, or how the show shall progress. Will Patrick Bateman come back, portrayed by a different actor? Will it be full of entirely new characters and storylines?
So that’s a given because the amount of excitement that’s there present is incredible however it is to be noted that Lionsgate has been associated with a number of successful productions. According to Beggs himself, the independent studio has a lot to offer.
While people have certainly made a point to watch American Psycho multiple times. It’s a given that this is the first time they must expect the unexpected in this regard.
That being said the tight-lipped Beggs refused to share any more information on this topic. But did say that there are a few more similar ways to serialize a few film franchises such as the John wick series.
