The Sixth Sense (1999)
You will know Bruce Willis from Die Hard mostly as an action movie star but, this movie will make sure to change your mind about him. The movie begins with a child psychologist Malcom Crowe who he is visited by a previous patient who is not at all happy with him at the night he receives an award and after this encounter Malcolm can be seen trying to cure a young little boy Cole who is afraid of seeing ghosts and he even confesses this to Malcolm by saying that “I see dead people”. The acting performances both by Bruce Willis and especially the young Haley Joel Osment is just amazing to watch. The movie received six Oscar nominations including best picture at 2000 Academy Awards.
Identity (2003)
This movie is one of the best psychological thrillers of all time which starts with an accident caused by Ed’s (John Cusack’s) car and due to the heavy storm, they decide to stay the night at a nearby motel where the group of peoples at the motel find out there is a serial killer among them as he is killing them all one by one. This movie’s plot twist will just blow your mind and I just do not want to give any spoilers for this movie that is why I want to zip my mouth right away and can advise you to just watch this edge of a seat thriller.
Se7en (1995)
This movie casting just will make you start watching it. The story revolved around a serial killer who is killing people according to the seven deadly sins which are: Gluttony, Greed, Pride, Sloth, Lust, Wrath, and Envy. The race is on for Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and Mills (Brad Pitt) to stop the serial killer before he completes his killing according to the seven deadly sins. The climax of the movie will make you just so emotional and leave you in shock. David Fincher is famous for his psychological thrillers at present, but people should know that this was his one of the first big success in the genre for which he received a lot of appreciation from the critics as well as the audiences.
The Others (2001)
This is beautifully written movie sets on the end of the second world war where Grace (Nicole Kidman) is waiting for her husband to return from the battleground. They move on to a new mansion in Jersey where they live with a group of servants. Grace has two children’s, and both have a common disease because of which they cannot be touched by direct sun rays without being hurt. Everything becomes suspicious as they live on the mansion and founds everything horrifying and mysterious. This is relatively slow movie than the other one’s so be patient you will love the horrifying twist at the end.
Fight Club (1999)
Firstly, I am sorry that I broke the first and the most important rule that “We don’t talk about F**** C***”. This is again a David Fincher’s masterpiece of the psychological thriller genre. This movie revolves around an insomniac nameless person who is also the narrator of the movie (Edward Norton). In a flight he met a person named Tyler (Brad Pitt) with whom he starts an underground fight club and soap making scheme. Now I just do not want to tell you much about the plot as it can contains some spoilers so just watch this amazing thriller with a mind-bending plot twist.
The Prestige (2006)
Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of the modern time who made a mysterious flick with some magic illusions casting Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as lead roles. They both are magicians and friends, however they become enemies after Julia (wife of Hugh Jackman in the movie) dies during a performance and Robert (Hugh Jackman) blames Alfred (Christian Bale) for her death. Now they are rivals and now Robert wants to know the secret of one of Alfred’s successful tricks. They both try to each other just for their obsession of becoming better and at the end you will get to know the secret of the trick that Alfred uses for his special magic trick which will just leave you stunned. Grab some popcorn to watch some mysterious magic in Nolan’s way.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
This movie is remembered as a classic cult and many people have watched the movie twice just to replay the scenes in the movie because almost everyone cannot believe what just happened at the end of the movie. I can bet you will think of who is Kyser Soze the whole time in this movie. The movie involves five criminals and a suspect who is pulled in for questioning about the heist gone totally wrong. Kevin Spacey’s performance in this movie is just outstanding for which he received an Academy Award for best supporting actor in 1996.
Shutter Island (2010)
Martin Scorsese and Leo DiCaprio’s duo is not new to anyone. The story starts with two U.S. Marshals Teddy Daniels (Leo) and Chuck (Mark Ruffalo) investigates the disappearance of a patient from Shutter Island’s Ashecliffe Hospital. As the investigation goes on Teddy becomes suspicious of the people there as they are not allowing him to access the records of the hospital and, he is suffering from his trauma due to which he sees flashbacks of his wife and children. In solving the mysterious disappearance teddy finds something which is … wait I am not giving away any spoilers so just turn on Netflix and start watching it.
The Departed (2006)
Another Martin Scorsese’s mysterious thrillers which is his first movie with a plot and earned him his first Academy Award for Best Director in 2006. The cast consists of great names such as Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin. Just the casting is enough to make anyone watch this great masterpiece. This movie received Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing. Leonardo is playing Bill Costigan whose family has a criminal background and now he has been given the opportunity to prove himself by going undercover and be inside the big bad Costello’s gang (Jack Nicholson) to find the rat in the police department. There are so many twists and turns and thrill in the movie that you will not find that this movie is two and a half hours long and the plot twists of the movie will just make you crazy enough to create your own theory of the ending of the movie. The performance by everyone in the film is just spectacular and to watch this movie you just need a Netflix subscription and then you can enjoy this masterpiece made by the great Martin Scorsese.
